Prélude et Scherzo, by French composer and conductor Jordan Gudefin is our Composition of the Week.

Prélude et Scherzo was commissioned and premiered by the Cadence Wind Orchestra, on July 11, 2018, at Saints-Pierre et Paul’s church, Eguisheim, France, with Alexandre Jung conducting.

The work was performed by the Orchestre des Jeunes de Strasbourg (France), Maxime Maurer conductor, on July 20, 2024, in Gwangju, South Korea.

Prélude et Scherzo is written in two large sections played without interruption.

“The Prelude offers us distant, deserted and brilliant harmonies at the same time. The listener plunges into a contemplative state. Next, the Scherzo develops little by little with interventions from all the orchestra's families. We get an accumulation of energy that drives us to a powerful and grand finale.”
