THE MIDWEST CLINIC COMPOSER INITIATIVE
The World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles has always been a strong advocate for composers and has always felt the importance of the symbiotic relationship between composers, conductors, and the music industry as a whole.
At the advice of one of our composer members and in an attempt to offer more to our composer colleagues, at 2023 Midwest Clinic International Band and Orchestra Festival (https://www.midwestclinic.org/) in Chicago, Illinois, USA, WASBE launched its new WASBE Midwest Clinic Composer Initiative.
The exhibition space at The Midwest Clinic can be cost prohibitive, for the conference, thus WASBE extended the size of its booth space so that interested composers could advertise their works on the exhibit floor for a much more reasonable price than for an individual, self-published composer.
WASBE believes that this is advantageous to composers, considering that The Midwest Clinic has an average of 17,000 participants—many of whom are searching for the music they will perform in the months to follow.

The composers that participated in the 2023 conference and as part of the WASBE Midwest Clinic Composer Initiative stated that it was worthwhile and of great advantage to them. We are hoping that 2024 is even more successful.
-
WASBE is providing all participating composers with the following:
-
Booth space
-
Furnishings (this includes items required by The Midwest Clinic: rugs, chairs, tables, etc.)
-
Display materials (floor displays, signage, etc.)
-
The works will be displayed using industry standard four-tiered floor displays (see image).
-
-
The responsibility of the composer is to provide WASBE with a high resolution photo and to bring scores (and parts, if desired) to the conference. Composers will be invited to spend as much time as they would like at the booth, but somebody will always be present should they wish to be engaged in the conference in other ways. For composers that would like to be involved but cannot be present at the conference, special arrangements will have to be made. All participating composers that are present will also be invited as special guests to the WASBE reception at the conference.
