Taiwanese composer and educator Yi-Chen Chen

As bizarre as normal, by Taiwanese composer and educator Yi-Chen Chen is our Composition of the Week.

As bizarre as normal was premiered at the 20th International WASBE Conference in Gwangju, South Korea, on July 17, 2024, by the National Chiayi University Department of Music Wind Orchestra, with David Shih-Wei Lin conducting.

The work has a duration of ca. 10 minutes, and it is scored for standard wind orchestra setting.

 

Dr. Yi-Chen Chen received her doctoral degree from University of Maryland, College Park and master’s degree from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She has won Walsum prize for her orchestral work Labyrinth. Her music has been presented in Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS), WOCMAT 2011 conference, and Taiwan Contemporary Music Forum. After working at the Overseas Chinese University, she joined the NCYU faculty in 2012. She also lectures at Taipei National University of Arts, and Taipei Municipal University of Education. Her current interests include cross-disciplinary multimedia project and electroacoustic music.


She is currently associate professor for composition at the National Chiayi University, Department of Music, in Taiwan.
